The Yonkers Land Conservancy, Inc. preserves open space and revitalizes urban forests in the city of Yonkers. Yonkers boasts a diversity of terrain, architecture and people. There is a wealth of historic and natural beauty within its borders on the Hudson River to the west and the Bronx River to the east, but the dwindling pockets of open space in this densely populated city are precious and essential to maintaining the livability of the city. The Yonkers Land Conservancy preserves these small sanctuaries for current and future generations by establishing conservation easements, planting trees to restore the canopy lost in severe weather, and removing invasive species to allow native species to flourish. The Land Conservancy also empowers the people of Yonkers to become land trust stewards by educating the community at special events and forming volunteer groups that take an active part in preserving the open spaces of Yonkers.
