2022 Backpacks to School: Community Packing Day

Each summer for the past 12 years, the Sharing Shelf holds its Backpacks to School initiative to provide low-income Westchester children and teens with backpacks and school supplies. Using feedback from local teachers, each backpack be matched to an individual child or teen and include grade-appropriate items to ensure they have the tools they need to start school with confidence.

This program is open to area schools, government agencies, and small community groups and nonprofits who support and work with low-income families. These partners submit requests for the children and teens they serve.

The Sharing Shelf has shopped for the supplies, but it needs volunteers to come together to pack the backpacks during its community packing day! This project is open to volunteers aged 5+ (volunteers 5-17 must register alongside an adult as part of their team).

Please note: NO walk-ins are allowed; every volunteer must be registered. Express interest for further details. There is a suggested donation at the door of $30 per person to fund a backpack for a child or teen in need. This donation is not mandatory.
