Sock Drive for Children

While socks are a daily basic necessity, they can be a luxury for children and families living in poverty. More than 60,000 Westchester children—or 36% of public school children—live in poverty or low-income homes.

Volunteers are needed to help the Sharing Shelf provide essential socks to more than 3,000 children and teens served each year. Sock donations will meet this critical need and help children feel good about themselves. Volunteers can purchase athletic socks in all sizes, from toddlers to adult shoe sizes for teenagers. Choose styles that are fun or that children would wear.

This is a great opportunity for families, friends, neighbors, community groups, or work colleagues! Consider a challenge with others to see how many socks you can collect. Express interest below to get started!

The Sharing Shelf is Westchester's Clothing Bank for Children founded in 2009 to combat clothing insecurity among low-income children and families in the community. We collect new and gently used clothing for infants, children, and teens. That clothing, sorted first by quality, is distributed to local, low-income children at no cost through nonprofits, schools, hospitals, and community groups in Westchester County. Each child or teen receives a week's worth of seasonally appropriate clothing matched to their sizing needs plus basic necessities like underwear, socks, toiletries and period products.
