Create DIY Reusable Masks for United Community Center of Westchester

The United Community Center of Westchester was created in 2005 by a multicultural group of volunteers who share a similar belief that working together is the best way to help individuals and families in need. They believe that by assisting anyone in their diverse community to make use of the resources and services to which they need and are entitled to; with the objective of empowering their clients and their families to lead a more enhanced and healthy community life. By creating the DIY Reusable Masks, volunteers will be able to help the diverse community of New Rochelle as a response to living life in an age of COVID-19.
Volunteers will make a curbside pick up of DIY Reusable Mask kits at the Volunteer New York! office on either:

• Tuesday, September 8th between the hours of 8:30 - 10:00 AM
• Wednesday, September, 9th between the hours of 4:30 - 6:00 PM

Volunteers are encouraged to take the kits home and make the masks on Friday, September 11th as part of the national 9/11Day of Service.
The following week, volunteers will return the completed masks back to a curbside drop-off at the Volunteer New York! office on a specific day and time.
Each kit will include detailed instructions as well as the fabric and elastic bands to make the DIY Reusable Masks. Volunteers will be asked to provide their own supplies of needle, thread, pins, and scissors. One kit per a volunteer.
Volunteer New York! will take measures to reduce interpersonal contact and congregation, through methods such as: wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and sanitizing hands in between donation drop-offs. All volunteers must wear masks as they are curbside picking up or dropping off the kits . This is part of the 9/11 Serve + Remember event.
