Online Disaster Preparedness Class
The City of Yonkers Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is an eight-week academy that trains and educates citizens in disaster preparedness topics and prepares them for hazards that may impact their area. Due to the current coronavirus outbreak, this training will take place ONLINE.
Students are trained in basic disaster response skills, incident command system, terrorism, disaster psychology, disaster medical operations, fire safety, and light search and rescue. Graduates will receive a diploma certificate and CERT gear backpack. Classes are 100% free and taught by certified NYS Homeland Security instructors. Post-graduation volunteering opportunities and exclusive trainings are also available.
Schedule: All classes are mandatory in order to graduate. All classes take place from 7-9 p.m. on the following dates and feature the new FEMA CERT updated curriculum:
- April 15: Class 1 - Introduction to Diasters
- April 22: Class 2 - The Incident Command System
- April 29: Class 3 - Disaster Pyschology
- May 6: Class 4 - Terrorism / Active Shooters / Home Grown Violent Extremists
- May 13: Class 5 - Medical 1 (Triage, Stop the Bleed Techniques)
- May 20: Class 6 - Medical 2 (Burns, Splinting)
- May 27: Class 7 - Fire Science and Prevention
- June 3: Class 8 - Search & Rescue / Graduation*
- June 10: Alternate Snow Day (if needed)
