Opportunity Details

2018-2020 After-School Reading Coach or Subject Tutor

Destination: College is looking for adult volunteers for its weekly academic enrichment program at Woodlands High School in Greenburgh. Reading coaches will work with the varsity football team to help them build better comprehension skills and to think more critically. Volunteers with a special background or interest in a particular subject may also provide additional assistance, especially with regards to algebra, geometry, biology, earth science, chemistry, global and U.S. history, and SAT prep.

Volunteers also work with senior students on the college application process, including essay support and general help with the FAFSA and scholarship applications.

Reading program sessions, which are facilitated by a Destination: College program head and the head football coach, run on Mondays from 3:15-4:15 p.m.; a typical commitment is once a week. The college access program may meet a couple times a week in the early fall depending on volunteer availability, typically on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:15 p.m. with flexible options available; this is facilitated by a dedicated Destination: College volunteer trained in that area of need. View the Volunteer Handbook here.
