Ossining Open Door's Reach Out and Read Program is recruiting volunteers to read books aloud to our young patients and bring books to life. We need volunteers who will show our kids the excitment in books by reading with different tones, counting, pointing our shapes and objects and getting them involved by asking questions. Sound simple? It is and it can make a huge imact on the school success for an underserved child.
A volunteer shift can be as easy as 1 hour per week, or longer. An every-other-week 2+ hour shift is also available. Volunteer to make a difference or volunteer for school service - it's all good, if you come to make literacy special for our kids!
Volunteers must complete an application and provide medical information. We will host a background check for volunteers 18 or older.
