2017 New Rochelle Annual Street Fair

As part of 9/11: Serve + Remember, this year Volunteer New York! worked closely with the City of New Rochelle and New Rochelle Parks & Recreation department to ensure there were meaningful ways for local community members to serve in honor of those we lost during the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001.

New Rochelle volunteers completed a restoration construction project at the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle. At the Hugh Doyle Senior Center adults over 55 volunteered to create literacy kits of underprivileged children. At Garito Manor volunteers took part in game day activities and spent time with senior citizens creating joyful experiences. Many volunteers also rose early to begin preparing the streets of New Rochelle at 6am for the 5th Annual New Rochelle Street Fair. This community event is one of the largest in the county, which draws in thousands interested in local food, vendors, live entertainment and nurturing the spirit of community.

Aside from the impromptu college cheer performed by a spirited group from Iona, Volunteer New York!'s own board member, Steve Sonet, being of the first of the volunteers to arrive and of the last to leave, and our own Volunteer New York! information table which attracted an impressive amount of local community members interested in taking action to become a volunteer, it was a great team effort to see - one that only serves as a reminder about the power that volunteerism has to bring our community closer together.
