Cause - Volunteer Drivers Needed

In our community it's difficult to get around without a car and the need for volunteer drivers has never been more critical. The following is a list of nonprofit organizations that coordinate volunteer drivers to help our neighbors get to routine appointments (which can include dialysis and chemotherapy, etc.), take care of errands and get groceries, or in times of high need, i.e., during emergencies.

Sometimes being a driver can be as simple as a 20 minute ride across town, as shown in this video below. That simple gift of a ride helps reduce stress and the indignity of being stranded at home or without the ability to get where you need to go when you do not have the means. It also helps to see a friendly face from time to time. A little kindness can go a long way.

Volunteer Drivers to Help Seniors

Do you want to make a difference in your community and you happen to have a few hours per month to spare? Perhaps you're looking for a more meaningful way to use your lunch break, or you're hoping to fulfill community service requirements for college. Why not use that time to offer a ride to a local senior? It Takes a Village is comprised of a team of devoted volunteers whose mission is to help senior members in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow live independently in their homes, and volunteers are needed to drive these senior neighbors to their destinations in Westchester County. Whether a member needs to make their doctor's appointment, run errands, or take a trip to the grocery store, you can help! This service is for members of It Takes A Village (ITAV 10591) living in Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow and is offered Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteer drivers decide when they're available to be "on call," and they are contacted via email if a member is in need of a ride—whether it's one-way or round-trip. All volunteers are interviewed, screened, and vetted prior to becoming a driver. Express your interest below; bilingual (English-Spanish) volunteers are welcome to apply! Know any senior friends, neighbors, or family members in Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow who would benefit from this service? Send an email using the link below.

TOUCH (Together Our Unity Can Heal) provides healthy food and supportive services to our neighbors with chronic illnesses. TOUCH works with the partner organizations of Rockland Community Against Hunger (RCAH) to distribute food to over 30 area food pantries. Volunteers are needed to rescue food from local stores and deliver it to a participating food program. Volunteer drivers can commit to a weekly food rescue or fill in when needed.
