Volunteer Coordinator


At The Guidance Center of Westchester (TGCW), our mission is to improve the well-being of people of all ages through innovative and effective programs that enable everyone to learn, work and thrive.
Our goal is to create lasting solutions to poverty, homelessness, mental illness and substance abuse by providing education, counseling, treatment, case management and vocational services. Our caring, professional staff helps over 5,000 people each year.  We have programs throughout Westchester County but are predominately located in New Rochelle and Mount Vernon.
Since 1942, TGCW has promoted the well-being of individuals and families, from young children to senior citizens, through five areas of program expertise – early childhood education, college & career preparation, substance use treatment, mental health treatment and housing with case management that individually and collectively offer all community members a path to a brighter future. 
The Guidance Center of Westchester is seeking a volunteer to help us both increase our volunteer program and to manage our current volunteers, those who give selflessly of their time and need someone to support and acknowledge them. The Volunteer Coordinator will act as a single point of contact for communications with individual volunteers and groups or organizations recruited to collectively perform volunteer tasks or projects.

The Volunteer Coordinator will provide:
  • Community outreach to find volunteers
  • Help with the application process
  • Outreach to TGCW staff to create volunteer opportunities
  • Connect volunteers to TGCW’s needs and opportunities
  • Training and orientation for volunteers
  • Scheduling and supervision of volunteers
  • Volunteer recognition
  • Ongoing support and guidance for volunteers
  • Support to volunteers to resolve grievances & promote cooperation & interest
Skills Required:
  • Strong judge of character
  • Conflict management skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Experience developing and implementing project plans
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a larger staff team
  • Knowledge of volunteerism and volunteer management practices
