The Community Food Pantry of Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown is an initiative of the Community Coalition — a group of community-based organizations and residents of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. It is a volunteer effort to provide our underserved residents and families with food and related supplies. Our list of items we distribute to clients includes fresh fruits and vegetables, meat (generally beef, pork or chicken), rice, beans, pasta, tuna, sardines, oil, peanut butter, frozen meat, cereal and milk.
Current postions at the food pantry include;
Food Bank Delivery
Please be at the Community Food Pantry at 10am to meet the truck from the Food Bank and unload the food delivery.
Fresh Veggie Delivery
The Food Bank provides us with fresh veggies and fruit. We need volunteers who can assist Margaret Yawman with unloading the veggies once they are delivered at the Pantry. Delivery generally happens between 9:30am and 11am.
Bagging/Shelving
Volunteers will bag the fruit and veggies as well as shelve non-perishables received from the Food Bank in preparation for distribution the following day.
Ticket Distribution
Arrive at the Pantry 15 minutes before opening to hand out numbered tickets to waiting clients. The ticket will hold their place in line for registration. One Ticket Per Client. Registration begins at 8:30am for morning distribution and 6:30pm for evening distribution.
Morning Distribution
Volunteers will guide clients through the selection process as they shop the pantry shelves.
