Help low income families build the foundations of reading through nursery rhymes and song and help kids reach their full potential. WordStart children listen to, learn, sing, hear- and when age and developmentally appropriate- learn to understand and use a special "Transitions to Read System" to read the words of 26 carefully selected and prepared nursery rhymes. We need 4-5 fantastic mentors to support families in our pilot program which starts in March. Become a mentor and work with parents and their children in the WordStart program. Mentors give time during program meetings and check in with families between sessions. Check-ins can be through text, email, or phone calls depending on family needs. Training will be provided for volunteers in mid March. Dates will be announced in the near future.
