Pro Bono Partnership provides free business legal assistance to nonprofit organizations in Westchester, Orange, Putnam and Rockland Counties, New York; Connecticut and New Jersey. The Partnership, with a few exceptions, assists nonprofits without charge, leveraging its own small legal staff by recruiting volunteer attorneys from tri-state corporations and law firms to advise on corporate structure and governance; contracts and leases; real estate transactions; employment issues; tax exempt status; environmental law; intellectual property; fundraising and lobbying regulations, and other business legal matters.
Through its Nonprofit Crisis Management Initiative, the Partnership also assists nonprofits with recession-driven issues such as mergers and strategic alliances; workforce reduction, modifying contractual obligations; restructuring debt; fulfilling terms of government contracts; and deciding whether to file for bankruptcy or to dissolve. The Partnership offers educational workshops for nonprofits on a broad range of legal issues, a resource helpline for answers to brief questions, and numerous free legal resources on its website. Visit our website to volunteer, to request legal assistance, to register for workshops or to sign up for free e-newsletters and alerts.
