IT Support Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to support Westchester Community Health Center's Information Technology (IT) team with non-clinical technology and operations tasks. Volunteers may assist with equipment setup, troubleshooting, inventory tracking, and providing basic tech support to staff. This is a great opportunity for college students or community members interested in gaining exposure to healthcare IT in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Equipment prep: assist with preparing laptops, phones, or tablets for staff use
  • Inventory tracking: help update lists of IT equipment, supplies, and loaner devices
  • Basic support: provide first-level assistance (e.g. password resets, printer setup) under staff guidance
  • Documentation: record support requests, resolutions, and device assignments in shared trackers
  • Training support: help set up projectors, Zoom, or Teams for staff meetings
  • Other duties: perform related tasks as assigned by IT staff

Skills and qualifications:

  • Interest in technology, IT support, or healthcare operations
  • Comfortable with basic computer and mobile device use
  • Organized and detail-oriented; able to follow instructions precisely
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
  • Minimum of two years of computer education from a technical school or university required
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Health screening/immunization clearance is required per WCHC policy

Time commitment and training:

  • This is an ongoing role requiring a minimum 3-month commitment and a weekly 2-3 hour shift (weekday daytime)
  • Orientation and training provided (customer service, escalation protocols, privacy)
  • Health screening/immunization clearance may be required per WCHC policy
  • Orientation and role-specific training provided by IT staff
  • Volunteers may be placed at different WCHC sites depending on IT project needs

Standards and safety:

  • Privacy: respect staff confidentiality; do not access or view patient health information.
  • Systems access: volunteers will not have EHR access. Any IT system use will be limited to training or assigned support tasks
  • Safety and environment: keep work areas tidy and report equipment issues or hazards to IT staff
