Volunteer Drivers

New Rochelle Cares is seeking compassionate and dependable volunteer drivers to assist seniors in our community. Volunteer drivers play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for older adults by providing safe and dependable transportation to essential appointments, social activities, and errand within lower Westchester County.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide transportation for seniors to their medical appointments, grocery stores, social events and other necessary outings
• Assist seniors with entering and exiting the vehicle, ensuring their safety and comfort
• Maintain a friendly and respectful demeanor while engaging with seniors during rides
• Ensure the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and safe for use
• Report any concerns or issues to the appropriate administrator
• Follow all local traffic laws and safety regulations while driving
• Participate in training sessions and meetings as required

Qualifications:

• Must be 21+
• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Must have a reliable vehicle with valid insurance and registration
• Must have a good driving record and knowledge of local roads and traffic regulations
• Excellent communication and people skills, with a patient and caring attitude
• Ability to assist seniors with mobility challenges (helping with walkers, canes, etc.)
• Must be able to pass a background check for driving and criminal records
• Must provide three references

Time Commitment:

• Flexible hours based on volunteer's availability
• Driving takes place on weekdays during business hours
