"Food Is Medicine" Food Packing

For low-income families, providing healthy food can be quite challenging. Open Door Family Medical Center's Food Is Medicine program, in partnership with Feeding Westchester, provides fresh fruits and vegetables to more than 400 adults, 200 children, and 150 seniors every month to help them eat a better-balanced diet.

Volunteers can support this program by placing food items in bags for distribution, then breaking down and stacking empty cartons for recycling and disposal. These activities require long periods of standing, lifting, and bending, and volunteers must be able to lift 10-pound bags.
