Board President

The Ossining Food Pantry's mission is to address the food insecurity of its neighbors in the Ossining and Briarcliff community. The Pantry makes a huge impact in these communities by providing a healthy mix of shelf-stable and fresh foods to approximately 350 households—or about 1,000 people each week! Food insecurity is one of the most pressing issues of our time. As head of the Ossining Food Pantry, the new president will be able to lead efforts which directly impact the quality of life for our neighbors.

The Ossining Food Pantry is a 100% volunteer organization with no paid staff. Currently, over 100 people volunteer with the pantry each week.

Responsibilities:

  • Mission & Strategic Planning: lead an organization with a projected 2023 annual income of approximately $500,000, establishing and executing a vision to enable the Pantry to meet short-term needs, while positioning the Pantry for continued long-term success
  • Community Engagement: be the public face of the Pantry. Identify and deepen relationships with the community for the purpose of nurturing goodwill, recruiting, and engaging new and ongoing donors/volunteers
  • Provide fiduciary oversight for long-term financial viability. Grow fundraising efforts and overall dollars by assisting with development efforts, setting and achieving financial goals, and personally soliciting gifts
  • Board Relations: participate in Board and Executive committee meetings (currently held via Zoom), help shape the agenda, and engage in discussion, deliberation, and decision-making to advance the mission

Requirements:

  • Previous board experience
  • Must commit to a schedule of Board meetings (1 per month) and Executive Committee meetings (1 per month)
  • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of volunteers, donors, and community partners
  • Strong skills in public speaking, written and oral communications, and exceptionally good interpersonal skills
  • Be a leader who can build, develop, and inspire an all-volunteer team
