Treasurer

Destination Imagination is a global, volunteer-led nonprofit that hosts STEM/STEAM-focused creativity challenges for students. The organization is dedicated to inspiring K-12 students with projects that take them from imagination to innovation with the goal of encouraging critical thinking and interest in STEM/STEAM disciplines.

Destination Imagination of New York (NYDI) is seeking a Treasurer. The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing all of NYDI's financial accounts and budgeting. The Treasurer should be a strongly committed and highly motivated volunteer with accounting experience. Service as Treasurer is usually combined with service as a Board Member. The Treasurer is expected to attend board meetings to report on NYDI’s financial status.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops NYDI’s annual budget and sets NYDI’s fiscal policies in conjunction with the Board of Trustees
  • Signs off on monthly financial reports and annual filings (IRS 990EZ, NY CHAR500, etc.)
  • Prepares [or works with an Accountant to prepare] annual non-profit filings
  • Keeps the Board of Trustees apprised of the fiscal health of NYDI
  • May serve as a member of the Board of Trustees
  • Reports to the NYDI Affiliate Director and Board of Trustees

Expected Time Commitment:

  • 1-4 hours per week on average
  • Attends one virtual board meeting per month
  • Attends up to three (minimum one) one-day tournaments per year (located in Westchester, Buffalo, and Binghamton)
  • Additional meetings as required based on need

Qualifications:

  • Must be organized, entrepreneurial, and a self-starter who is able to work independently
  • Previous experience with non-profit finances is a plus
  • Previous experience with QuickBooks is a plus
