Invasive Species Management at Tom Burke Preserve

Tom Burke Preserve, though only 7.5 acres, is a dynamic green space bursting with biodiversity. Half meadow, half wetland forest, the preserve is home to a variety of native flowers, shrubs, trees, and grasses, all of which make Tom Burke a haven to the pollinators that support our ecosystems.

Westchester Land Trust's stewardship staff is hard at work to improve the pollinator habitat at Tom Burke Preserve, and much of this work includes removing invasive species from the preserve to allow native species regeneration. Join Conservation Tech Stella and Land Steward Brendan for a morning of invasive removal, learning about the land, and having fun!

Those volunteering on May 23, 2026 get a special treat as the goats of the Fat and Sassy Goats grazing company will join volunteers in removing invasive species at the preserve. The goats eat most of the leafy invasives, weakening the plants and slowing their growth, making it much easier for volunteers to remove the plants after.
