Dental Support Volunteers

Westchester Community Health Center's Dental Support Volunteers support the dental team in creating a smooth, welcoming experience for patients. Volunteers assist with non-clinical tasks such as greeting patients and clerical support. This role helps staff focus on direct patient care while ensuring patients feel comfortable and informed.

Responsibilities:

• Patient support: welcome patients to the dental clinic, answer basic questions, and help direct them to staff
• Clerical support: assist with filing, appointment reminder/missed appointment calls, and organizing patient education materials
• Health education: share oral health education resources (flyers, handouts) and encourage preventive care
• Survey and engagement: support patients in completing satisfaction surveys or oral health screening forms
• Other duties: perform related responsibilities as assigned by the dental provider(s)

Skills and qualifications:

• Friendly and professional communication skills
• Organized and detail-oriented; comfortable with simple clerical tasks
• Interest in oral health or dental careers preferred, but not required
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
• High School diploma or GED required
• Health screening/immunization clearance required per WCHC policy

Time commitment and training:

• This is an ongoing role requiring a minimum 3-month commitment and a weekly 2-3 hour shift (weekday daytime)
• Health screening/immunization clearance may be required per WCHC policy
• Orientation and role-specific training provided by the dental department and staff
• Opportunities available for students interested in exploring careers in dentistry or public health

• Privacy: maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
• Safety: follow infection-control procedures and dental department protocols
• Environment: help maintain a clean, welcoming space for patients
