Food Pantry Sorting and Packing Volunteers

On the second Monday of every month, Westhab's Dayspring Community Center receives a delivery of pallets with food items to be prepared for distribution later that week.

Volunteers are needed to help move these food items from the parking lot into its building's storage space. Once everything is stored in the refrigerators and freezers, volunteers will help package the dry-shelf food into bags (usually 120+) to assist with distribution day. Volunteers will also help flatten and organize any cardboard boxes not in use.

Volunteer requirements:

  • Be able to lift 20-50 pounds
  • Be able to use stairs (there is an elevator available, but only one batch of food can be transported at a time)
  • Wear comfortable, warm (layered) clothing and appropriate footwear (sneakers or boots)
  • Spanish-speaking skills encouraged but not required
