No matter what cause you care about (hunger, women, the environment, education, or whatever), nonprofits do not have enough money to accomplish their important missions. At the same time, Americans spend $450 billion a year buying birthday, wedding, and holiday presents. It is no surprise that many people, looking for meaning, rather than more “stuff” are starting to show their love by making a meaningful donation in a friend’s name in lieu of buying more fuzzy slippers. Our nonprofit, www.ChangingThePresent.org, helps make that happen. We do this by making the experience of a donation, given in a friend’s name, feel like a rewarding gift. That includes tangible charitable opportunities (fund an hour of cancer research, preserve an acre of the rain forest, etc.), wish lists and registries, and personalized printed greeting cards.
