Donate Blood to Save Lives

In May 2026, the New York Blood Center declared a blood emergency as blood supplies dropped to critical levels. Blood donations help local hospitals maintain stable blood supplies for patients who depend on transfusions everyday. Anyone between 16 and 76 years old is a potential blood donor. 16-year-old donors need parental permission, and those 76 years must present a physician's note indicating they are able to give blood. This note should be obtained within a month prior to the drive.
PARKING: There is free parking for volunteers at the Westchester County Center. Let the parking attendant know you are there to volunteer for the 9/11 event. This project is a part of 9/11: Serve + Remember.
All those interested in participating MUST follow the steps below to schedule a specific time to give blood on September 10 between 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

1. Click "Sign Up" (if donating by yourself) or "Sign Up With a Family, Group, or Team" below (if donating blood alongside one or more other people) to add this project to your Volunteer New York! profile and alert the volunteer coordinator.
2. Click here to finish booking your time-specific appointment.
   Volunteers who do not complete these steps will not be scheduled to donate blood!

FAQs:

I am signing up with a family or group, or with children between the ages of 16-17.

1. If you are signing up with one or more people, or there are volunteers between the ages of 16-17 in your team, you MUST click "Sign Up With a Family, Group, or Team" below.
2. If you are not already logged into your volunteer profile, you will be prompted to log in or register a profile.
3. You will be asked to create or select your team. If creating a new team, give your team a name and description, then enter all of the names of your teammates. (Enter your teammates' unique emails if you want them to receive updates on the project or to help them add this project to their personal volunteer activity history. For children, enter their ages.)
4. You will be prompted to complete your registration.

I accidentally only registered myself. How do I register as a team?

1. Log into your volunteer profile and identify the project you signed up for (by yourself) in your "Upcoming Opportunities" section.
2. Click "Remove" to remove yourself from the project.
3. Follow steps 1-4 above to register as a team.

Can my child under 16 join me for this project?

1. This project is best suited for volunteers who are 18+ and young volunteers aged 16-17 who register alongside an adult. For younger volunteers, please find more age-appropriate family projects at volunteernewyork.org/youth-families.
