2026 Backpack Drive for Kindergarten Kids

Family Services of Westchester is collecting backpacks filled with school supplies for Head Start program graduates! Each kindergarten-bound child will receive the readiness tools they need to prepare for their big transition in the fall.

Items needed:

  • Small backpacks
  • Colored pencils
  • Construction paper
  • Crayons
  • Glue sticks
  • Filled pencil case
  • Blunt scissors
  • Washable markers
  • Kindergarten writing paper

Stuffed backpacks should be delivered by June 18 to ensure that children receive their supplies before the school year.


Family Services of Westchester's Head Start/Early Head Start program is a federal government program that was created in 1965 to give preschool children from low-income families a "head start" on their readiness for elementary school. This program provides services and support focused on early learning and development, health, and family well-being for low-income households for children from birth to age 5.
