Mindfulness and Yoga Counselors

Survivors and staff at My Sisters' Place work together through experiences that can be traumatic and bring up a lot of emotion that impacts the body, mind, and nervous system. Mindfulness and yoga create a shared foundation of regulation, resilience, sustainability, and care by helping survivors feel safer in their bodies, more present in their lives, and better equipped to heal on their own terms. For staff this support can help further care in regard to their well-being, stay emotionally present without burning out, and continue doing this powerful work with strength and compassion.

Volunteer Mindfulness and Yoga Counselors are needed to share their professional background and skills with the clients and staff at My Sisters' Place. Activities may include:

  • Lead guided mindfulness, meditation, or yoga sessions for clients and/or staff
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and calming environment for participants
  • Demonstrate and guide breathing exercises, gentle movement, and grounding techniques
  • Offer modifications to ensure accessibility for all physical abilities and comfort levels
  • Monitor participant comfort and adjust pacing or activities as needed
  • Encourage participation while respecting personal boundaries and choice
  • Provide brief check-ins before and after sessions to support emotional safety
  • Communicate any concerns or participant needs to staff following the session

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • Certification or training in yoga, mindfulness, meditation, or related practice preferred
  • Experience leading group sessions or classes in person and online
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices strongly preferred
  • Ability to create a calm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment
