Volunteer Social Worker Board Member
MAC Angels Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals and families impacted by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Through financial assistance, emotional support, and community-based programs, the Foundation helps families navigate the overwhelming challenges of ALS with dignity, compassion, and hope.
The Volunteer Social Worker Board Member brings professional social work expertise to the Board of Directors, ensuring that the Foundation's programs, policies, and outreach efforts are trauma-informed, family-centered, and responsive to the complex emotional, social, and practical needs of ALS patients and their caregivers. This Board Member serves as both a strategic advisor and an advocate for families impacted by ALS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Board Governance & Leadership
- Serve as a voting member of the MAC Angels Foundation Board of Directors.
- Participate actively in board meetings, committees, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Uphold fiduciary responsibilities and ensure ethical governance consistent with the Foundation's mission.
- Program Development & Oversight
- Provide professional guidance on the development, evaluation, and enhancement of programs supporting ALS patients and caregivers.
- Advise on best practices in case management, crisis intervention, caregiver support, and end-of-life considerations.
- Assist in evaluating the social and emotional impact of Foundation programs.
- Family Advocacy & Support
- Offer insight into the psychosocial challenges faced by ALS families, including grief, caregiver burnout, financial stress, and mental health needs.
- Support the creation of referral pathways to community resources, healthcare providers, and support services.
- Advocate for culturally competent, inclusive, and accessible services for all families served.
- Policy & Ethical Guidance
- Advise the Board on ethical considerations related to family support, confidentiality, boundaries, and informed consent.
- Assist in developing policies that reflect trauma-informed and person-centered care principles.
- Community Engagement & Awareness
- Serve as an ambassador for MAC Angels Foundation within professional, healthcare, and community networks.
- Help strengthen partnerships with social service agencies, hospitals, hospice organizations, and ALS-related support groups.
- Support fundraising and awareness initiatives as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Licensed social worker (LCSW, LMSW, MSW, or equivalent) in good standing.
- Professional experience in healthcare, hospice, palliative care, neurology, disability services, or family support preferred.
- Knowledge of chronic illness, caregiving dynamics, grief, and end-of-life issues strongly desired.
- Strong ethical judgment, communication skills, and collaborative approach.
- Commitment to the mission and values of MAC Angels Foundation.
Time Commitment:
- Attendance at regular Board meetings (typically quarterly).
- Participation in committee work and occasional special meetings or events.
- Estimated commitment: 5-10 hours per month.
- Board terms and term limits are defined by MAC Angels Foundation bylaws.
