2025 Writers Express Youth Summer Camp Counselors

The Hudson Valley Writers Center is seeking responsible high school and college students to assist with its 2025 Writers Express Youth Summer Camps. The Writers Express Camp Counselors will gain valuable experience in youth arts education, literary programming, and child care/youth development, as well as gain exposure to the daily operations of a nonprofit arts organization.

The summer camp runs every weekday from July 28 to August 22. Counselors can choose morning shifts (8:45 a.m.-1 p.m.) or afternoon shifts (12-4:15 p.m.). A letter of community service hours will be given at the end of the summer upon request.

Counselor responsibilities:

• Support the work of teaching artists in the classroom
• Assist with camper sign-in/sign out
• Adhere to photo release forms, authorized pickup forms, and allergen information
• Serve as a role model to campers
• Assist with camper supervision during the lunch hour
• Compile camper anthologies or help with camper performance at the end of the wee
• Communicate openly with teaching artists and HVWC Administrative Staff
• Assist with basic daily cleaning tasks (wipe down tables, sweep the floor)
• Prioritize creating a safe, happy, and inclusive environment
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Counselor qualities:

• Based in Westchester County during Summer 2025
• Be between 16 and 22 years old
• Eager to work with youth from various backgrounds and skill sets
