After-School Mentors

The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau is looking for volunteers to help mentor and tutor students in grades K-12 after school. Volunteers promote positive youth development by leading or assisting with group activities and providing academic support, including sharing their hobbies, skills, and talents with students; assisting instructors; and helping with homework. This program runs Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m.

Volunteers must:

  • Be punctual
  • Be resourceful
  • Be able to follow directions
  • Be able to establish good relationships with program participants
  • Be able to maintain discipline, tact, courtesy, and good judgment
  • Pass a background check

Experience working with elementary, middle, and high school students is helpful, but not required. An orientation is provided. Bilingual (Spanish/English) and senior or retired individuals are encouraged to express interest!
