Horse Barn Volunteers
At Green Chimneys, students with special needs learn to ride, care for, and connect with equines as part of a comprehensive nature-based education experience and treatment plan.
Green Chimneys is looking for committed, long-term Horse Barn Volunteers to assist with its Horse Barn in support of the riding educational program. Horse Barn Volunteers play a crucial role in barn maintenance, horse care, and assisting instructors with lessons. Volunteer shifts typically occur between 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. on weekdays. Shifts are a minimum of four hours. As they become more familiar with the barn routine and the horses, volunteers can advance to the handler training and exam in order to begin leading in riding classes.
All volunteers are required to be vaccinated from COVID-19 and wear a mask while indoors (or as per their supervisor's instructions) at Green Chimneys. All volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation and training, which includes a tour of the farm; an introduction to the program and the students served at Green Chimneys; and lessons on grooming, cleaning a horse's stall, and general barn safety.
