2021 Bilingual (Korean/English) Volunteers to Distribute Free Routers
The Y-Zone is a digital opportunity zone (DOZ) that will provide free internet access to approximately 250-500 need-based households within southwest Yonkers. A group of Westchester-based partners from the business, nonprofit, and community sectors have come together with seed funding for this pilot program by US Ignite, a national leader in digital innovation and equity.
The Y-Zone team is looking for volunteers to assist with the distribution of free routers to residents in Yonkers who primarily speak Korean. Ideal volunteers are bilingual in English and Korean. Members from the Y-Zone team will be in attendance to guide volunteers. No experience is needed; just an enthusiasm and a willingness to help residents get signed up!
Volunteers will spend the first 30 minutes of the project setting up and reviewing procedures. Once the event begins, volunteers will:
- Assist residents in sign-up process
- Assist residents with explaining the program
- Translating questions and relaying answers to residents
- Translating wherever else it is needed
All volunteers should be vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine and should wear a mask while in attendance. Express interest below!
