Mentors for Kids (2021-2022 School Year)
The Family Service Society of Yonkers (FSSY)—of which JCY-Westchester Community Partners is an affiliate—is currently looking for volunteers to join its mentoring program to work with elementary-aged children on their assignments.
The purpose of this Mentoring Program is to assist children with their schoolwork on a one-to-one basis. Students selected by their teachers and school administrators are paired with volunteer mentors who meet with them once per week for one hour. Mentoring may be done in-person or on the Zoom video meeting platform using FSSY Zoom lines, depending upon the program. All calls are monitored by Program Coordinators for quality and security of the children.
Mentors will tutor their students on various subjects, such as reading and math, depending upon the needs of the school. If mentoring remotely, the volunteer will require internet access, a computer, and basic knowledge of Zoom.
