2022 Conflict Resolution Workshop Volunteers - Purchase

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is a volunteer organization that provides programs for youth, community groups, and prison inmates to learn new skills in order to deal with the conflicts in their lives. These programs are lead by volunteer Workshop Facilitators who engage participants in a series of experiential role-playing exercises that focus on building conflict resolution skills, such as affirmation, communication, cooperation, teamwork, and creative conflict resolution. Becoming a Workshop Facilitator requires no special qualifications; the only requirement is the desire to reduce violence in the community and a commitment to completing the training.

Facilitator training involves three weekend-long workshops. Volunteer facilitators receive a manual with exercises for the workshops; they then apprentice in a workshop either in prison or in the community. There are two to four facilitators per workshop, and volunteers are expected lead two or three weekend workshops per year—although more are welcome!
