Healthcare Professionals Needed for 2020 Hurricane Season Support
Due to a projected active hurricane season, the American Red Cross has a special need for volunteers with specialized medical training. These volunteers will work in emergency shelters to help assess people’s health and provide hands-on care in alignment with their professional unencumbered license.
Ideal volunteers for this role include those with any of the following certifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
- Nurse Practictioner (NP)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Paramedic
- Physician Assistant (PA)
The American Red Cross is also seeking volunteers in ancillary roles (Certified Nurse Assistant, home health aides, medical students, student nurses) who can provide care as delegated by a licensed nurse in shelters. This could include assisting with activities of daily living; providing personal assistance services; providing health education; and helping to replace medications, durable medical equipment, or consumable medical supplies.
