SMART Mentor - Yonkers
SMART (Students and Mature Adults Read Together) is a volunteer mentoring-tutoring program that provides one-to-one tutoring to improve literacy skills for youth. Started in 1996, the program has grown to more than 200 volunteers. SMART volunteers help kids improve their basic reading and academic skills by giving them individual attention and lots of encouragement.
The program features flexible times during the school day with a minimum of only one hour of volunteering per week. SMART provides all the training and support its volunteers need; teaching experience is not required!
