2018-2021 Volunteer Counselors
VCS Inc. (formally Volunteer Counseling Services) provides accessible and affordable counseling services and family support programs. VCS is seeking adult applicants of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities, as well as those who are bilingual (greatest need is Spanish and Creole) and bicultural, to participate in its Volunteer Counselor Training Program. There are no formal education requirements.
VCS looks for those who are open, willing, and motivated to learn. Curriculum, taught by professionals, includes the VCS Counseling Model, relationship issues, and domestic violence as well as issues such as sexism, racism, and other types of oppression that impact people's lives. Training is offered once a year. There is a fee for the training.
Those who become counselors commit to volunteer 4-5 hours per week for a minimum of 18 months. Placement depends upon the successful completion of the training program. Express interest below to be notified of the next training program dates.
