Volunteer Grants Manager
The Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon is seeking a seasoned grant professional with a proven track record of writing, winning, and securing grants to support its growing Development Department. This opportunity is the perfect role for an experienced grant writer, grants manager, institutional giving professional, nonprofit consultant, or retired development leader who wants to use their expertise to help strengthen and expand life-changing programs for children and teens in Mount Vernon.
The Volunteer Grants Manager will help identify strong funding opportunities, review grant strategy, strengthen proposal narratives, support grant submissions, and help ensure the Club is well-positioned to secure competitive foundation, corporate, government, and community funding.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate high-quality grant opportunities aligned with the Club's mission and program priorities
- Review funding guidelines and assess competitiveness, eligibility, and strategic fit
- Write, edit, and strengthen letters of inquiry, grant proposals, concept papers, narratives, and reports
- Help develop compelling cases for support using program data, community need, outcomes, and youth impact stories
- Support grant budgets and budget narratives in partnership with staff leadership
- Maintain or improve the grants calendar, deadline tracker, and reporting schedule
- Advise on grant strategy, funder cultivation, and institutional giving opportunities
- Support stewardship language and follow-up communications for funders
- Help position the Club for larger, multi-year, and capacity-building grant opportunities
- Provide guidance on best practices for grant readiness, documentation, and compliance
Ideal Candidate
- Demonstrated experience successfully writing and securing grants
- A strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising and institutional giving
- Excellent writing, editing, research, and storytelling skills
- Experience developing compelling narratives, measurable outcomes, and funder-aligned proposals
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of foundation, corporate, and/or government grant processes
- Comfort working independently while collaborating with leadership and program staff
- A passion for youth development, education, mental health, workforce readiness, community impact, or social equity
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of grant writing, grants management, development, or institutional giving experience
- A proven record of securing grant funding for nonprofit organizations
- Experience with youth development, education, social services, mental health, workforce development, food security, arts, athletics, or community-based programming
- Experience preparing budgets, budget narratives, reports, and outcome-based proposals
- Familiarity with government grants, foundation portals, and corporate giving applications
- Experience working with nonprofit leadership, boards, or development teams

Time Commitment

- This opportunity can be completed primarily remotely, with occasional in-person meetings at the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon as needed.
