Opportunity Details

Human Library Volunteers

Human Library is a 19-year-old organization based in Copenhagen that provides a learning platform for people who experience prejudice to have a conversation with another person. This builds empathy and the understanding that to overcome prejudice requires not just awareness, but action. Library terminology is used: "books" share the stories, and readers check the "books" out to talk with them. The books have titles which reflect how society sees them.

The Briarcliff Manor Public Library is seeking volunteers who have firsthand experience with prejudice, discrimination, or stigma due to a difference and who are willing to share their story. Human Library Volunteers will engage in three 30-minute, one-on-one conversations at the Library with participants who want to learn more about the volunteers' experience with discrimination.

Human Library Volunteers will complete a two-hour Zoom training a month or so before their conversations. Express interest below!
