We are looking for volunteers to play various card games with our residents-- Canasta, Bridge, Gin Rummy, Poker, etc. We are flexible with hours and dates but are looking to have it at least twice a month to start, possibly once a week.
Ambassadors are needed to welcome patients and visitors to VA Hudson Valley Health Care System’s Montrose Campus.
As an Ambassador you'll provide the highest in customer service to our Veterans, their family members, and visitors. An Ambassador will greet each person with a smile, be able to assist with wheelchair transport, if needed, and at the conclusion of every contact ask, "Is there anything else I can assist you with?"
As part of the team of Ambassadors you'll be an integral part of the VA as you create and maintain a positive alliance with others.
Will provide morning smiles in the form of coffee and cookies to Veterans receiving treatment at VA Hudson Valley Health Care System's Montrose Campus. Volunteers will distribute items from the cart in the Urgent Care Area providing a moment of respite for Veterans. A small gesture like this offers Veterans a break in their morning and gives them a gentle lift. These items are delivered with lots of love and a smile by our caring volunteers. You'll be an integral part of the VA as you create and maintain a positive alliance with others.
Must have strong people skills, able to fill and empty coffee pots, push a cart, and bend to reach items.
Help United For the Troops send a little comfort to our military overseas! United For the Troops supports our troops serving overseas by sending them care packages of items they say they “miss most” while they are deployed. (Click HERE for a donation list.)
Handwritten letters, cards, and pictures are always welcome and included in the care packages; they're the first thing our servicemen and women see when they open their packages, and they remind our military how thankful we are.
This year we aim to send out 10,000 letters and cards! This is a great family-friendly activity. Break out the construction paper and crayons or pick up a package of thank you cards and write out a few. Cards can be mailed or dropped off; we just need them in time for our packing days.
Mail thank you cards to:

Volunteers can visit veterans in the inpatient units at Northern Westchester Hospital; sit down with them, hang out, laugh and enjoy friendly conversations, all while making a difference in a veteran's life! Volunteers can determine their own time commitment and schedules—spend as little or as much time as you'd like!
Are you a "people person?" Do you like the idea of fostering meaningful friendships with our veterans and their spouses? If so then this opportunity is for you!
Our recreation department is looking for dedicated volunteers who will work closely with our staff on their assigned neighborhoods to provide friendly room visits to residents and document the visits. Each volunteer will be assigned and trained to work on a specific neighborhood.
This volunteer opportunity would be during the week ideally and 1-3 times a week for a few hours at a time.
Many Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam county area Veterans need a ride to their medical appointments at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System in Montrose, New York.
Volunteer Drivers serving in VA Hudson Valley Health Care System Volunteer Trasportation Network (VTN) can literally be the difference-maker in veterans receiving needed medical care. Do you have one or more days a month that you could give as a VA volunteer driver? To fill this role, you must have a current, valid New York State drivers' license, automobile insurance, and pass a physical exam. Hours vary.
To learn more about what's involved and how you can serve those who served through this most important volunteer activity, please contact Voluntary Service office phone 914-737-4400 ext. 3713.
