Be part of the Meals that Heal Program

About our program The mission of The Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley is to provide a temporary home-away-from-home for families with critically ill or traumatically injured children. We achieve our mission through the quality and experience of our staff and volunteers, as well as the community support we receive to sustain the House. About the role We have two fully equipped kitchens for our families to cook themselves a meal at any time of day. They bring their own food in and prepare their meal at the House. Often times, this is difficult for parents who are with their child in the hospital all day, so we’ve created our Meal Program. The Meal Program is provided by local individuals, organizations and corporations who are invited to visit our House and cook a meal (serve 25 people) for our families. These volunteers offer our families a much needed and appreciated home-cooked meal when they return from a long day at their child’s bedside. The group donates the food and cooks the meal. Local restaurants can also donate meals to our families as requested. Volunteer with friends or your family to prepare a meal for the families at the Ronald McDonald House! Sign up to prepare a meal for our families!

Pull Tab Program

Think green and help the House! Our unique Pull Tab Collection Program does both. Volunteers collect the pull tabs from aluminum cans and bring them to a local recycling center where they are exchanged for money at the current market value per pound. (Approximately 1,267 tabs are in a pound depending on the size, shape, and metal content. Collecting aluminum tabs is a fun and easy way to get involved with the House. You can make it a company, school, personal, or class project. If a school is large enough, it may want to challenge the students to collect 1,000,000 tabs. Environmental clubs can collect tabs as a part of their efforts to help the environment. Clubs that are committed to charity work can see how their efforts directly affect our families. Tabs may be forwarded directly to the House. Tabs forwarded to the House should be bagged securely and then placed in a cardboard box.

Walk the Walk and Move a City - Active Life Style

YOM 1-2-3 Volunteer Approach. Walk the Walk and Move a City Yonkers On the Move (YOM) is an active life style campaign and walking program. We want to move a city and we are well on our way! We have over 630 campaign sign-ups, the support of the Yonkers mayor and others. For nine years the initiative conducts an annual campaign that includes a YOM WALK 20 Challenge and also themed events/walks. The goal is to provide resources, information and motivation to encourage those who are sedentary to start walking as the way to regular activity. And, for those already walking, to have fun and keep inspired through Yonkers On the Move. 1- YOM Volunteer – Become familiar with YOM initiative and Walk 20 Challenge (See attached YOM brochure) Learn YOM event and walk registration Help committee members with specific objectives.
