Holiday Wrap-a-Thons!

Welcome the holiday season by helping to wrap gifts for children. Open Door’s annual holiday toy drive and "Santa Days" have become a source of holiday cheer for underserved families in the community. Last year, more than 2,500 wrapped gifts were distributed at its six medical centers. That takes a lot of wrapping paper and a lot of volunteers! Outreach Support Specialist

The Crossover Yoga Project's (CYP) Outreach Support Specialist uses best practices to effectively bring CYP's curriculum to organizations in community centers, shelters, residential treatment centers and juvenile detention centers in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. CYP's program has empowered over 1800 girls in the past two years through trauma informed yoga, mindfulness and creative art expression and offered tools that help them to manage their emotions, become self-aware, gain self control and respect for themselves. The position is responsible for working with community partners to recruit and identify eligible shelters, community centers, residential treatment centers and juvenile detention centers in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland Counties, to engage service providers for deeper engagement with CYP’s programs. RESPONSIBILITIES Advocates on behalf of CYP’s program to identify and connect with community partners, such as social service agencies, detention centers and community-based resources. YOM 1-2-3 Volunteer Approach. Walk the Walk and Move a City Yonkers On the Move (YOM) is an active life style campaign and walking program. We want to move a city and we are well on our way! We have over 630 campaign sign-ups, the support of the Yonkers mayor and others. For nine years the initiative conducts an annual campaign that includes a YOM WALK 20 Challenge and also themed events/walks. The goal is to provide resources, information and motivation to encourage those who are sedentary to start walking as the way to regular activity. And, for those already walking, to have fun and keep inspired through Yonkers On the Move. 1- YOM Volunteer – Become familiar with YOM initiative and Walk 20 Challenge (See attached YOM brochure) Learn YOM event and walk registration Help committee members with specific objectives. If we incorporate a walk in our event - help YOM guide walkers 2- YOM Walk Team Captain – With some experience and/or program understanding (as noted above) as a YOM volunteer, help form, and motivate your neighborhood, civic, religious or work group to regular walking. Help coordinate step/mile reporting and team formation.. 3- YOM Committee Member – Open to Yonkers residents and those from public sector or private work establishments who support our mission and can offer a volunteer representative. VCS Counselor

VCS Inc. (formally Volunteer Counseling Services) provides accessible and affordable counseling services and family support programs. VCS is seeking adult applicants of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities, as well as those who are bilingual (greatest need is Spanish and Creole) and bicultural, to participate in its Volunteer Counselor Training Program. There are no formal education requirements. VCS looks for those who are open, willing, and motivated to learn. Curriculum, taught by professionals, includes the VCS Counseling Model, relationship issues, and domestic violence as well as issues such as sexism, racism, and other types of oppression that impact people's lives. There is a fee for the training. Training programs are offered twice a year and take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:45-9 p.m. for 12 consecutive weeks. Space is limited. Surprisingly, so few people are aware of the struggle some of their neighbors face just to meet the basic need of diapering their babies.
