See the Birds of Winter & Great Backyard Count
Join the Greenburgh Nature Center on a winter walk to learn more about birds in our area and be part of a citizen-science program. Volunteer with your family and learn how to identify and count birds.
This MLK Day project is on Sunday, January 18th.
What is the Great Backyard Bird Count?
The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a free and easy annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. It takes place Friday, February 13-February 16, 2015.
Each checklist submitted during the GBBC helps researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them and the environment we share. Last year, participants turned in more than 144,000 online checklists, creating the world's largest instantaneous snapshot of bird populations ever recorded.
*This is a family-friendly project for children of all ages. If you are interested in signing up as a family, please choose Sign up with a team. Thanks!
About Greenburgh Nature Center: The Greenburgh Nature Center is a 33-acre nature preserve with trails, a pond and gardens. The property is a significant wildlife habitat refuge, both for indigenous species and for the hundreds of species of migratory birds that use it as a resting place on their spring and fall travels. The property includes 30 acres of woodland, two significant wetland sites, and an old orchard succession site, which is used as a nesting area for Eastern box turtles.
