Healing Heart Cards for Hospice Families

Coping during the holidays can be a difficult for families that have suffered the loss of a loved one. It’s a time filled with bittersweet memories and new routines which transform family traditions. It may also alter a person’s spiritual connection. Healing Heart Cards allow you to share your experience with someone and lets them know, they’re not alone.

Caring Card Volunteers: people who have suffered a loss themselves and who want to share their story. Please do not send cards if you have not suffered a loss yourself.  

Directions:

1.	Make your card(s). Cards should be gender neutral and non-denominational because you do not know who the end recipient will be. 
a.	Pictures of flowers, nature, birds, etc. that project a sense of peace and tranquility. 

2.	Start your message with the following:

My name is (may be anonymous); _______________ and in YEAR  ; I lost my; _________(Spouse, Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Grandparent etc--Family Relationship).

The first year after a loss, is a year of firsts. The first holiday season was a very difficult time for me, but something I did that helped was -(fill in the blank).

3.	Mail or drop off completed cards to United Hospice of Rockland, INC., 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956. ATTN: Healing Heart Cards

Cards will be distributed to families in the Bereavement Program. 

Can children help?

Yes, children who have experienced a loss can make cards for other children. They will be given to families in the Healing Heart Program. 

Please follow the directions above; the message can be altered to capture the child’s voice, but should share similar information.
