Repair Cafe Volunteers - Rockland County

What do you do with a broken toaster? Or with a lamp whose switch won't work? Or with a sweater full of moth holes? Or a computer that is glitchy? Toss it? No way! Bring it to the Repair Cafe, a free, community-powered event where volunteer Repair Coaches help community members bring their items back to life. Repair Cafes are more than just fix-it events; they’re vibrant community gatherings where knowledge is shared, landfill waste is reduced, and connections are made.

Friendly, handy people are needed to volunteer as Repair Coaches. This is a great project for volunteers who enjoy tinkering, troubleshooting, or just chatting with people while working on a project. Repair Coaches don't have to be professionals!

Repair Coaches will:

• Help community members troubleshoot and repair household items
• Explain their repair process when possible—it's part of the learning experience!
• Contribute their skills in a relaxed, friendly environment

Ideal Repair Coach qualities:

• Cheerful, friendly disposition
• Helpful; likes to chat with people, especially about the repair being performed
• Comfortable explaining simple repair concepts
• Excellent troubleshooter
• Loves giving old things a new life

Repair categories:

• Common repairs: lamps, small appliances, electronics, computers, digital devices, costume jewelry, clothing, blankets, radios, audio equipment, coffee makers, vacuums, chairs, small furniture
• Specialized and unique past repairs: bicycle mechanics, knife sharpeners, musical equipment, smoke machine, antique Pachinko game, vintage violin, electric lawn mower
