Disaster Action Team (DAT) - Westchester

Whether it's a local single-family fire or a state-wide hurricane, the Red Cross is on the scene providing emergency care and comfort to both victims and emergency workers. The Red Cross Disaster Action Teams are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, helping families and individuals get back on their feet after a major or minor natural disaster.

Emergency assistance may include temporary housing, food, clothing, basic household furnishings, help with health care needs, and referrals to other agencies. During large disasters, volunteers are needed to work in shelters and on mobile kitchens, conduct damage assessments, provide medical care and crisis intervention and more.

Committed Disaster Reponders are needed in the following areas:

• Westchester County
• Rockland County
• Putnam County
• Sullivan County
• Orange County

For volunteers under 18 - Join a Red Cross Club

The American Red Cross Greater New York Region’s multi-faceted Youth and Young Adult Services program comprises Red Cross High School and Campus Clubs organized at high schools, colleges and universities throughout the region.

Being a Red Cross High School or Campus Club member builds character and provides the tools and experience needed for attaining strong leadership, communication and community service skills. By interacting with those in need, Red Cross youth volunteers establish a sense of awareness and personal achievement while developing these skills.

Additionally, Club members are encouraged to become permanent members of the American Red Cross Greater New York Region as they grow within the organization and take on increasing levels of responsibility.
