Development and Fundraising Director

Destination Imagination is a global, volunteer-led nonprofit that hosts STEM/STEAM-focused creativity challenges for students. The organization is dedicated to inspiring K-12 students with projects that take them from imagination to innovation with the goal of encouraging critical thinking and interest in STEM/STEAM disciplines.

Destination Imagination of New York (NYDI) is seeking a Development & Fundraising Director to develop and implement an overall fundraising strategy for the organization, including managing and building on a portfolio of current donors, developing fundraising events, applying for grants, and developing outreach materials in conjunction with the existing marketing efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive statewide strategy for securing sustainable funding, and work with Board of Trustees and volunteers on its implementation
  • Responsible for all fundraising activities statewide, such as fundraising events, foundation and corporate giving, individual giving, major gifts, annual giving, and alumni/parent relations
  • Research grant opportunities and develop proposals to foundations
  • Maintain records of donations and donor information
  • Report to the NYDI Affiliate Director and Board of Trustees

Time commitment:

  • 2-5 hours per week on average
  • Attend one virtual board meeting per month
  • Attend up to three (minimum one) one-day tournaments per year (located in Westchester, Buffalo, and Binghamton)
  • Additional meetings as required based on need

Qualifications:

  • Must be organized, entrepreneurial, and a self-starter who is able to work independently
  • Previous experience building and managing a team of volunteers is a plus
  • Previous experience with fundraising is a plus
