Chef for a Day

The Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV) provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families with critically ill or traumatically injured children. It is looking for volunteers with cooking experience to become a Volunteer Chef for a day and guide groups of volunteers through a day of service. Chefs demonstrate and assist volunteers in cooking and serving meals for the families of Ronald McDonald House.

Responsibilities:

• Create a menu for brunch, dinner, and/or dessert for at least 25 people (chefs will receive notice for which meals to prepare). Menu must be submitted for approval one week in advance
• Prepare the food
• Lead cooking demonstrations for volunteers and instruct volunteers on how to prepare the meals
• Assist volunteers in individually packaging and serving the meal to RMHGHV families
• Provide any special items (i.e. pasta press, kitchen torch, etc.)

Commitment:

• At least 6 Wednesdays per year
• 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. shift (dependent upon group signup times)

Qualifications:

• Be 18 years old or older
• Be resourceful and able to work independently and in a team
• Be able to represent Ronald McDonald House in a professional manner
• Be able to complete and pass a criminal background check
• Be able to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
• Have formal culinary training or 5+ years of on-the-job experience
• Be able to complete a volunteer application
• Sign the Photo Release & Confidentiality agreement
