After-School Activity Mentors for Students

The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau is looking for volunteers to help mentor and tutor students in grades pre-K-8 after school. Volunteers promote positive youth development by leading or assisting with group activities and providing academic support, including sharing their hobbies, skills, and talents with students (such as yoga, cooking, or boxing); assisting instructors; and helping with homework. This program runs Monday through Friday from 3-5 p.m.

Volunteers must:

  • Be punctual
  • Be resourceful
  • Be able to follow directions
  • Be able to establish good relationships with program participants
  • Be able to maintain discipline, tact, courtesy, and good judgment
  • Pass a background check

Experience working with elementary and middle school students is helpful, but not required. An orientation is provided. Bilingual (Spanish/English) and senior or retired individuals are encouraged to express interest below!
