Bilingual Interpreter (Spanish-English)
The Center for Safety and Change is seeking volunteers to assist its support staff and advocates in translating English and Spanish to clients during conversation and meetings. This is an in-person role at the Center's office in New City.
NOTE:
The Center for Safety and Change is not requiring vaccinations for staff and volunteers and is therefore still upholding a mask mandate in the office and while on-call.
Responsibilities:
- Translate both English to Spanish and Spanish to English in real time
- Must convey a cultural and professional tone during these interactions, taking careful note of and communicating implied meanings that may not translate directly
- Follow up with staff members and clients to ensure translation meets their needs
- Handle highly classified information and protect identities of clients
- At least 18 years of age
- Fluency in both English and Spanish
- Willing to work in an environment where clients may be in distress
- Required to sign confidentiality agreement
- Must agree to background check
- Previous experience as an interpreter is preferred
- Shifts determined by volunteer
- Between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday
- General orientation by the Coordinator of Volunteers
- On-site training by immediate supervisor
