2021-2022 Volunteer College Coaches

Volunteer College Coaches work one-on-one with high school seniors who have been accepted into the Latino U College Access (LUCA) Scholars Program. Scholars are first-generation to college, low-income, high-achieving, Latinx students. School counselors from Latino U's partner school districts nominate students based on their academics, leadership, potential, and community engagement.

Volunteer College Coaches are matched with a Scholar and work with them from June of their junior year through May of senior year to develop their college list, write their college essays, and complete their Common Application. Volunteer College Coaches provide encouragement and guidance as their Scholars take this important next step to make their college dreams a reality.

Requirements:
Volunteer College Coaches must be college graduates with strong computer proficiency, excellent communication skills, and experience with the college admissions process (either for themselves, their children, or supporting students). Volunteer College Coaches must pass and cover the expense of a required background check annually.

Time Commitment:
Volunteer College Coaches must participate in four mandatory training sessions during the summer and make a year-long commitment to support their assigned Scholar. Once training is complete, College Coaches schedule individual sessions with Scholars based on mutual availability. This project can take place both in-person and virtually.
