This is a two-year term, renewable twice, for a total of six continuous years. Board terms are staggered so no more than half the Board members begin a term in any one year.

  • Generate funds in support of the organization by working with staff to cultivate new and existing donors.
  • Provide input to chapter executive on annual budget, upon request.

  • Advise the national organization on the selection of a new chapter executive.
  • Provide input to the chapter executive's manager for purposes of evaluating the chapter executive’s performance and providing feedback.
  • Support the Alzheimer’s Association’s Strategic Plan; provide input to the Chapter’s Strategic Implementation Plan; and monitor the organization’s programs and services.
  • Contribute skills, knowledge, and experience to a chapter committee.
  • Enhance the organization’s public image.
  • Assess the Board’s performance.
  • Recruit and train new board members using sound board policies.

Expectation of the board:

  1. To include the Alzheimer’s Association among their top charitable commitments.
  2. To support the concept of a "culture of philanthropy" and look for ways to help improve fundraising activities. Chapter board members will be expected to participate in one or more of the Alzheimer's Association's signature events (currently Walk to End Alzheimer's and The Longest Day®.) Chapter board members will also be expected to participate in chapter-specific fundraising activities. Chapter board members will be expected to contribute to the Association at a level that is appropriate for each board member's total amount of charitable giving and the community. The current give/get minimum for fundraising for each new board member is $10,000 annually.
  3. To advise the chapter executive in guiding the Chapter’s strategies and policies to better serve people suffering with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
  4. To provide input on critical issues through regular participation in Board meetings, including special meetings such as Board retreats, and through active service on at least one committee. Board meetings are currently held 4-6 times during the year.
  5. To represent the Alzheimer’s Association in the community by telling the Alzheimer’s story and raising awareness of both the disease and the Alzheimer’s Association’s mission.
  6. To provide the Chapter with key contacts (individuals, corporations, and/or foundations) to improve efforts in fundraising, public and community relations, political advocacy, and board development.
  7. To prepare for Board meetings by reviewing Board reports, minutes, and financial statements; respond promptly to Board communications; and notify the Chapter office when unable to attend meetings or events.
  8. To consider Board-related business as privileged information, to be treated confidentially.
  9. To avoid the substance or appearance of conflict of interest.
