Ready Red Cross Shelter Volunteers

Due to predictions for an active hurricane season and the complexities of COVID-19, the American Red Cross will need thousands of volunteers to help care for people when disasters strike. Ready Red Cross Shelter Volunteers are trained to answer the call when their communities need it most.

Ready Red Cross Shelter Volunteers will help support emergency shelters (through November) by staffing different areas, including reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, and information collection, and performing other vital tasks. Both associate and supervisory opportunities are available.

Requirements:

  • Must be willing to commit to 5 in-person shifts (8-12 hours) if a shelter is opened in the tri-state area (Westchester, Rockland, NYC, and Long Island)
  • Must have a valid driver's license 
  • Must complete approx 2.5 hrs of training (all available online)
  • Minimum of 18 years of age or older
